Halve Garbage Waste program

Marketing/Communications

Background

Frankston City Council launched the community engagement
program ‘Halve Garbage Waste’, in April 2006.  The aims of the project
were to encourage the Frankston community to reduce their household
waste by incorporating composting or worm farming into their current
household waste management practices.  The program aimed to attract
1000 Frankston City Council residents to trade their current weekly garbage
collection for a fortnightly collection, and adopt composting or worm farming
to dispose of their green waste.

ZOOiD Role:

  1. Created a marketing strategy for the Halve Garbage Waste program, including definition of relevant media and marketing outlets
  2. Media release and newsletter communications development
  3. for government and community stakeholders
  4. Preparation of project design briefs for creative design and printing tenders
  5. Selection of external providers of creative design and printing services
  6. Coordination of Halve Garbage Waste brand development with external creative design agency
  7. Project management of communications to all stakeholder groups, including government, community, and media outlets

Results:

  1. Almost 1700 expressions of interest were registered for the program: 70% more than the original targeted number
  2. Program design, metrics, strategy and tactics to be used for future Frankston City Council environment programs

Testimonial

“Right from the beginning ZOOiD was extremely professional and had a good grasp of what the project was trying to achieve. The working relationship was excellent with regular meetings, emails and phone calls and discussions on the progress of the project.

It was interesting from a Council point of view to deal with a marketing consultant and many things were learned throughout the process which Council has been able to apply in a number of other marketing campaigns since.

Marian is an excellent person to work with, very easy going and always professional in her approach.”
