Sustainable Indigenous Housing – Developing Flexible Guidelines for Indigenous Housing
Background
AHURI RMIT-NATSEM had received an Australian Research Grant from the ARC to undertake the project: “Using community-based processes to develop flexible guidelines for the design and modification of housing for a diversity of household types in provincial and remote Indigenous communities.”
The project built on existing policy and design guidelines and developed resources to support the design and modification of indigenous housing. The aim was to make the housing liveable and socially sustainable for different family types in remote and provincial Australia.
ZOOiD Role:
- Authored Indigenous Housing Policy Context first chapter draft for positioning paper
- Identified and interviewed thought leaders in indigenous housing in Australia
- Extensive literature review undertaken on indigenous housing, including: indigenous housing in Australia, Canada and New Zealand; indigenous sustainability; community engagement; policy; health; remoteness; legislation; economics of provision and governance.
